Design Services: Build a Brief That Makes Decisions Easier
A strong design brief connects your goals, existing surfaces, and practical constraints before you choose a finish.

Describe the change you want
Start with the experience of the space. Should the room feel warmer, quieter, more distinctive, or easier to navigate? Those words are more useful than a long list of unrelated products. In the kitchen concept shown here, oak, olive cabinetry, and pale stone share a warm palette. The materials differ, but the direction is consistent. A brief gives each decision something to support.
Separate fixed elements from possibilities
Make a short inventory of what stays and what can change. Include furniture, flooring, lighting, and any artwork that matters to you. Add photographs and approximate dimensions, then mark surfaces that need closer inspection. For a business, include brand references and how customers move through the space. For a home, explain how the room is used during an ordinary day. These details help a designer suggest finishes that fit the situation.
Bring references with reasons
Three carefully chosen images are often more helpful than a folder of fifty. Write a sentence about each reference: perhaps you like the texture but not the color, or the scale but not the furniture. Mention anything you actively want to avoid. Share a working budget range and your preferred timing early, so the conversation can focus on realistic options. The scope of design support and any deliverables should be agreed before work begins.
Use the first concept to learn
A first concept is a way to test the brief. Ask whether the palette supports the mood, whether the focal point is clear, and whether the proposed finish works with the elements that remain. Keep feedback specific. Instead of saying a room is too busy, identify the pattern or contrast that creates that feeling. Then refine the direction, review samples, and confirm the installation scope. Good preparation makes the process more focused and gives everyone a shared basis for the next decision.
